MELA
- Midwest Ecological Landscaping Association OK, so I play musical chairs with Boards. One I’m on now, whose cause I really endorse, is Midwest Ecological Landscaping Association (MELA). Plus, I totally enjoy the people. Basically, it’s a group comprised of high-quality folk in various areas of the Green Industry who want to get more information out there about ecologically friendly practices. First, we are trying to educate and network among ourselves; if we learn anything worthwhile, we try to make it public. Last year, we had a professional seminar and spoke at the Flower & Garden Show at Navy Pier. On February 11 and March 3, 2004, we will host two more professional seminars; our Mini Conferences are entitled “Trees in Peril” and “Diagnosis of A Disturbed Site.” Presenters will discuss some of the more damaging pests on the horizon (and I do not mean your little brother, Click & Clack’s mother-in-law or the neighbor who keeps “inadvertently” killing your plants) and possible plant solutions, both native and not-necessarily-so. The second program takes an in-depth look at the Chicago Center for Green Technology, http://www.ci.chi.il.us/Environment/GreenTech/ a really cool site worth a visit! One of the great joys has been getting to know Co-Presidents:
